Syndicate Software brings you its take on the classic, plain-trick card game Spades. Core features include the ability to play with or against your friends on one device (you make your play, then pass the phone to your friends when it is their turn), intelligent computer opponents, a bevy of statistics to keep track of your performance against the computer, and the ability to save multiple games at once. In addition, the game has been designed in a portrait viewing mode to enable one-handed gameplay. You can easily play Syndicate Spades while standing on a crowded bus or train! (We know, as we found a number of bugs in the AI while being crammed into the El in Chicago!)
Key Features:
Single-Phone Multiplayer - Syndicate Spades allows you to play your friends with a "Pass-and-Play" mode. Pass-and-Play involves two or more people playing a match on the same phone. One player makes a play, then the game prompts this player to pass the phone to another player when it is their turn. You can play with any combination of humans and computers. Partner with your friend and take on the computer, play against your friend by partnering with the computer, or even play with two or three other friends!
Track Statistics - Syndicate Spades keeps track of the number of matches won and lost, winning and losing streaks, biggest wins and losses, success rates for bidding, and much more. See how you stack up against the computer over the course of your playing career!
Save Games - Syndicate Spades allows you to save games that are in progress so you can play a game with different settings, with friends, or simply start a new game because you feel like it. You can save any number of games and resume them whenever you want! In addition, Syndicate Spades automatically saves and resumes your games if you quit the program or are interrupted by a phone call or other event.
Customizable - A number of application-wide settings can be changed from the iPhone Settings application. These include: animation speed, whether to animate dealing, the starting player for each hand (left of dealer, right of dealer, player holding the two of clubs), winning score, sandbag penalties, and the computer player's names.
Portrait Mode - Syndicate Spades was designed in portrait mode so that it can easily be played with only one hand! We know marketing this as a feature is a tad ridiculous, but spend five minutes with our game and you'll see why we think it is a big deal!
Intelligent Computer Opponents - We spent most of our development time designing, creating, and tuning the artificial intelligence. We think we're pretty decent Spades players, and we didn't rest until we had created computer opponents that could give us a run for our money. Your computer partner will do their best to cover your nil bids, set your opponents, avoid sandbags, and notice when to lead a card that sets you up for a win. We certainly win more than we lose against the computer, but it still manages to beat us on a consistent basis!
Simple Design - We did our best to follow the iPhone application design guidelines and feel that it shows in Syndicate Spades. It has a consistent, clean feel that uses animations to accentuate but not overwhelm the gameplay. We hope you like it!
